How do i keep my teeth white after using crest whitening strips?

Posted on July 8, 2013 by AllSmiles.

How do i keep my teeth white after using crest whitening strips? – Erika

Erika – If you are pleased with the results that you received from whitening strips, you need to do periodic touch-ups to keep your teeth white. If you want an even brighter smile, ask your dentist about take-home teeth whitening.

You will get the best results with teeth whitening from your dentist because professional-strength whitening gel is used.

Regardless of whether you use over-the-counter whitening strips or teeth whitening from your dentist, in time, your teeth will stain from food and drink, so you will have to do occasional touch-ups to keep your teeth white.

My white fillings are stained

Posted on June 27, 2013 by AllSmiles.

I just got white fillings in January and they are stained already. I smoke and the tar or nicotine has yellowed my fillings. Can I get them white again? Todd

Todd – If the stains on your composite fillings are only surface stains, your cosmetic dentist may be able to polish away most of the stains. If the stains are below the surface of the white fillings, they can’t be polished away.

As you likely know, you can protect your lungs and teeth if you don’t smoke. If you have front teeth that are filled, porcelain veneers may be an alternative; they are much more stain resistant than composite.

How long does teeth bonding last?

Posted on June 10, 2013 by AllSmiles.

I have 2 chipped teeth. I am deciding on whether to fix it with porcelain veneers or teeth bonding. How long does teeth bonding last? Thanks. Veronica

Veronica – Dental bonding works well for small repairs in teeth. Although it is not as durable as porcelain, if taken care of, it can last up to ten years.

Smoking, coffee, and tea tend to stain bonding. Excessive alcohol consumption will weaken the bonding and cause it to wear away prematurely.

Find a skilled cosmetic dentist who uses quality bonding material and has a variety of material so that the bonding will match your natural teeth. Keep your appointment for regular checkups and cleanings. If your bonding stains frequently, your cosmetic dentist may be able to polish the stains away.

Take care of your bonding to help it last long.

Should a teeth cleaning at the dentist hurt and be bloody?

Posted on March 23, 2013 by AllSmiles.

I was just there 6 months ago and had the same experience as I did last Thursday. It hurt and lots and lots of blood. I think the hygienist doesn’t like me. When I floss and brush my teeth at home it never hurts or bleeds. I only have problems when I go to the dentist. Everything there seems rough and rushed. When the dentist comes in and checks my teeth and gums he says everything looks fine. So why all the pain and blood? Is this a normal experience for a 6 month cleaning at the dentist? – Carmen

Carmen – It is not normal to have a lot of pain and blood during a dental cleaning. If this is the only time you are experiencing problems, you may want to find another dentist, or at least get a second opinion on the reason for your bleeding gums during the cleaning.

It is likely that you need to find a gentle dentist, along with a gentle hygienist, who takes the time to clean your teeth and do it without causing a lot of pain and bleeding.
