Lowell Dental Bridge

A dental bridge is used to replace a missing tooth. Bridges placed by Lowell dentist Dr. Michael Szarek are crafted from zirconium oxide, a high-quality ceramic that gives them both strength and a beautiful, natural appearance.

How a dental bridge works

Crowns placed on the adjacent teeth (the teeth on either side of the gap) will support a false tooth cemented in the center. In Dr. Szarek's practice, he works with master ceramist Mike Bellerino, one of the few dental ceramists in the world to be accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD), to create strong, natural-looking dental bridges. The color of the zirconium is porcelain, and can be expertly matched to the surrounding teeth. Once placed, it is virtually impossible to distinguish the false tooth from the natural ones. In addition, these appliances are designed and crafted to function like natural teeth, restoring natural biting and chewing ability.

Having a bridge placed involves at least two visits. At the first, Dr. Szarek will prepare the adjacent teeth for crowns, create detailed notes for the ceramist to build the permanent bridge, and place a temporary bridge to last until the ceramic bridge is ready.

Once the permanent bridge is complete, the patient returns for a second visit. The bridge is then carefully checked to ensure the patient is satisfied with both fit and color before it is cemented in place. Read the details of our beautiful smile guarantee.

Ovate pontic technqiue

Unlike general dentists, accredited cosmetic dentists must be trained in a technique known as ovate pontic, which involves preparing the adjacent teeth and the gum so that the false tooth appears to be growing out of the gum. This gives the tooth a much more natural appearance.

Dental bridge versus implants

Another option for replacing missing teeth involves the use of a dental implant. Both procedures have advantages and disadvantages. Read more about the pros and cons of dental bridges versus implants.
